You do have a point that not everything can be made into a patent or otherwise protected. I think Voska was more taking No_Axe's attitude to its logical conclusion.

But even then, you have to watch out because what is not protectable now may become protectable in the future, all in the name of profit and monetization. Software patents and business model patents are a good example. How do you know, in future, that some big corporate interest is going to push for the patentability of things that were previously not patentable? And when this happens, you can expect the money and lobbying machine to be thrown at our easily-bribed politicians.

And once such things become the law, then it will be very difficult to turn back. You'll get arguments like "Patenting X has been allowed for a long time" and "Patents help us make money and keep American jobs. If you support your jobs, then you'll support our patents." All this for things that should not have been made a patent in the first place.
