You are not making sense.
>>>The thing is, let's say there's 5000 people who want your product. If you must release it under the GPL, you're only guaranteed of getting ONE sale<<<

Why would you release your product under the GPL? There are no requirements to do that. Not, unless, it's not your product but someone else's product that you changed a couple lines.

Please, please, please tell me where you people get the idea you must release your original apps under the GPL. Please. I really want to know how you got that idea in your head. Do your release the apps you write for UNIX or MS under a GPL license? Why would you release your Linux apps under a GPL license?

There absolutely is no, I repeat, no requirement to release Linux apps under the GPL. You release under the GPL only when it belongs to someone else that released it under the GPL. If that is the case then what makes you think it belongs to you to start with? If you take 2 million lines of MS code and add your three lines to it does that make it your code? Or does it make it MS code with your three lines added? Its the same with any GPL'd app. You cannot add your three lines to their two million and claim it as yours.

What are you people thinking?

Why don't you anti-OSS, anti-GPL people take a few minutes and actually read the license. If you did you'd stop posting such ridiculous verbiage. If you understood the different licenses available you'd have no need to post dumb examples. If you understood the licenses you would quickly be able to see through MS FUD. It seems their campaign is working. 99.999% of the people that complain about OSS, GPL, LGPL, BSD, creative commons, or any other licenses useally, but not always, associated with OSS really have absolutely no clue what is actually in the licenses or what the terms of the different licenses are.

Please, go read, come back well armed and able to intelligently discuss the strong points of each. Stop looking foolish. To use MS tag line: Get the Facts!
