Why I buy

I was just over at my brother's about 2 weeks ago watch Chronicles of Riddeck. He had download the Director's Cut from the net and it was Full DVD Quality. He burned it to a DVD too. Now both of us had seen that movie in theatres and now that the movie is out on DVD we have both bought it. Why?

Simple, DVDs and CDs are collectibles. Think of someone collecting comics. Does a photo copy of the latest Superman comic fit thier collection? Think of Baseball cards or that fine china. I can get a collection of dishes for under $10 but so why spend $200 on matching set of china? It's all in the collectablity. When the MPAA and RIAA figure out that is what they are selling they can settle down.

Also remember the movie industry thought TV would kill thier business. Then the MPAA thought the VCR was the death of them. The music people were even worse. First it was player pinaos that would kill the business, then radio, tape recorders, CD burners, now P2P is the threat. All I can say is that these industries have cried WOLF so many times only to turn around a make even bigger profits that I find thier crying today meaningless.
