You guys give everybody a break
This is very common in any Talkback session related to Microsoft....DRIFTING AWAY FROM THE REAL DISCUSSION.
Everytime people just throw up their inherent hatred for MS like a kid. Please guys act like professionals, this is what ZDNET and the rest of the folks who read these message expect of us.

NOw coming back to the topic....
The question is whether MS can be a threat to Google or Yahoo....my belief is it is too early to tell but we can surely come to some projection in six months when people become more aware of MSN search and start trying it as opposed to Google or Yahoo.

About the question that the quality of results is not at par with Google...yes it is expected so because it takes time to crawl the entire web and build a sufficiently good index. Remember Google has an advantage of close to 7 years over MS so obviously for the time being Google results will be more efficient and more in number than MS results.

The real war between search engines is not the amount of pages they have indexed but the way they rank their pages and thats where the major research is going. MS claims to have developed their own algorithm to do just that...well time will tell whether they have succeeded or failed.

I have been comparing MSN search against Google and most of the time i have found the number 1 Google result hit among the first 5 MSN result hit which tells me they are catching up with Google pretty fast.
And let me remind you that Google results are not GODSEND standard results.... they can very well have flaws in their page ranking technology which is actually missing some important links that MSN or Yahoo dont miss.
As for us users....MSN's entry into search space will indeed benefit us ...why...because it doesnt matter whether we use Google or Yahoo or MSN....atleast these giants will always be on the edge to provide US better technology.
And if this is what causes Google or Yahoo to work harder then i surely welcome MSN entry.
