Was it ever meant to protect consumers?
I don't know about you but I know Microsoft didn't hurt me as a consumer by being a monopoly. I mean I could buy Windows 98 Back in the day for $95 or Unix for my first born child. Even OS2\Warp was like $300 back then.

The there was Office. Office was $400 while Word Perfect was $900. Not sure what the price of Lotus was.

Basically as cosumer I don't thing I needed protecting.
