sure, "The Incredibles" is probably already out there, but then so are several films that would never otherwise be seen in countries that censor Western (or Eastern) materials.

I seem to recall that in the old Soviet Bloc, bootlegging of American music and other media helped to fuel the desire to join the rest of the world and maybe even got a lot of younger people involved in the politics that changed the governments over there.

There are also a lot of recordings of shows from countries that will never make it to your local cable network. I know someone that downloads Vietnamese soap operas because it is too expensive to get tapes mailed to her from family there. Shut down one part and you kill legitimate usage like this.

Personally, if I download, it's to see if it is suitable for me to take my kid to. If not, I wait and rent the better quality DVD when it comes out.
