The point is they're missing a market

I used to download movies, but then Movielink (and CinemaNow, which I haven't tried yet) came out and I would rather pay $2-$5 to be able to watch a movie in minutes than spend days monitoring downloads of movies of dubius quality.

The primary problem is sites like MovieLink and CinemaNow have really bad selections. The second problem is that they are priced comparitively to physical movie rentals. If the studios let sites like these carry every movie that's ever been digitized and charge a price that reflects their dereased operating costs vs brick-and-mortar chains, I think it would be huge. Especially if you could do the renting with your Tivo, PS2, or XBox (hint to MS: DRM + XBox + online rentals = $$$).

As for the rest of the downloaders who won't pay a couple bucks to watch a movie, the studio should just ignore them. Yes, they are doing something illegal, but they aren't costing the studios anything because they are not potential customers, at least until they get jobs that pay enough so that saving a few bucks isn't worth the effort of downloading the movie.
