Many so-called pirates are people simply looking for choice and convenience

Let us not forget that there are many films that are not available at Blockbuster or any other place within the United States. There is a large community of movie watchers who love to watch foreign films, films that may never come to their area.

In other cases, foreign movies can take over two years to be released within the US. Take the Hero or City of God. In addition, many times when foreign movies are finally released in the US market they are “Americanized” to supposedly increase sales. Sound effects are changed, parts deemed offensive to Americans are removed, bad dubbing is added, etc. It is a shame what happens to many movies once they hit the American market.

What about anime and HK cinema? Should we wait five years for Mirmiax/Disney to butcher the movie and release it in the American market?


Therefore, it is also a problem of choice and convenience. I am sure, with efficient delivery and more offerings not limited by region coding or by what is deemed marketable; many movie watchers would not need to turn to pirated copies.
