Oh my gawd ...
using a database to provide information based upon previous events that have been stored in it. What a copycat of Cendant's obviously revolutionary system of doing the same thing. For sure, there is no prior art before Cendant of using a database to say, provide recommendations based upon previous purchases by anyone. Obviously, online (and offline) purchase information has been stored in databases for a long time (Cendant didn't "invent" this too, did they?). They must have been the 1st entity ever to use a database like this for the purpose of providing recommendations. Maybe I'm missing something here, but what is the invention, the purpose. You can use a database of customer information, and you can make recommendations, but the process of using the database to make recommendations has been patented by Cendant. Gosh, the next thing we are going to see that is patented is using any medium to transmit a credit card number. This will include using a modem connected to a telephone and (naturally) extend to saying it into the phone too. Anybody who accepts credit cards in any similar manner will be in violation...
