Oddities in the numbers.

Note that the 935 million number is internet users, not necessarily pc's. And not all users have Windows, so your 9.35 million number isn't quite right anyway.


And then, consider this quote from the article:
The move from IE to Firefox is also shown by the fact that half of Firefox downloads are from IE users, according to Decrem [a Mozilla Foundation spokesman].

So at least some of the move is from other non-IE browsers, probably.

And then, the hope, according to the article, is to get 10% of US users (or pc's?) for FireFox/Mozilla, but the article linked appears to be saying 10% of world users (or pc's).


Finally, from your linked article:
The U.S. continues to lead with over 185M Internet users forecasted for year-end 2004.

Let's say that there's one pc/browser per pc. That would be 18.5 users hoped for in the US. If in fact they're interested in 10% of the world market, that's 93.5 million users less 18.5 million in the US, or 75.0 million non-US users.

Anyway, assuming everyone wants the newest version or has to get it, the 93.5 million total is going to use up a lot of bandwidth.


In sum, without even looking at the issue of the popularity of FireFox, a lot of things in these numbers seem a bit strange. Let's take your point, that a small percentage change is a lot of users (and pc's), and leave it at that, okay?!
