Look at the numbers

Perhaps in context that is the lesson here, but the numbers are impressive when looked at in raw form:

Total computer users worldwide = 935 million

So a 1% change in Firefox gaining on IE means 9,350,000 people switching to Firefox. That's a pretty big droplet.

As for your Safari comments--I like it and use it (although ZDNet frequently crashes it for some reason so I use Camino to browse here). But more ******** folk prefer Camino/Mozilla/Firefox for the Mac because it's a more flexible browser, and let's the user control things a little more. For me, the "snapback" feature of Safari makes it more useful.

Given that, with 25 million Mac users worldwide, there should be 2.6% of online users with Macs. Some of them are using Mozilla/Camino/Firefox, some Omniweb, some IE, some Netscape, some Opera. Many are still on OS9 and before so they can't use Safari. Many are using Safari but spoofing the ID to get into IE only sites. So 1% doesn't seem like that crazy of a number to me.
