Microsoft blew it....
Microsoft had an opportunity to make a dent in some of the negative perceptions which exist concerning their standard operating proceedure. They could have shown the world that they are capable of playing nice and cooperating from time to time on important technologies. They blew it!

So now instead of giving a little and realizing the PR benefits in the IT world they have merely added to the negative perceptions which continue to proliferate about their practices.
