don't count those chickens yet
Four years ago polls showed Gore with a serveral point lead and yet Bush won in a squeaker, with five states being decided by less than .5% of the vote. This year polls show a dead heat. The problem is most polls are taken in the urban/sububan areas of the two coast and neglect to count all those voters in "fly over country" were Bush's 'simple country boy' image is making him very popular.

Based on years of following politics as a non-two party voter, a voter who often votes knowing my candidate had no chance of winning, and therefore can watch the dynamics of electorial politics from an above the fray perspective. I expect that when the votes are counted Bush will win 35+ states, a healthy electorial college win and about 52 - 56% of the popular vote.

One factor in the election will be it is a true two man race. Baring a big blunder by Kerry/Edwards (not going to happen) I will be surprised if all the third party candidates combined get 2% of the vote in even one state & less than 1% nationwide. We haven't had a true two man reace since Reagan's re-election landslide of '88 so this election should be a good measure of the political balance of the country headed into what will (if my election predition is correct) be an open seat election in 2008.

If I am correct and Bush wins, expect to see the 2008 presidential race start in the spring of 2005. I will even go so far as to predict we will see a strong 3 or 4 way race in 2008. There are simply too many people on both sides "doing what they have to" this election. Next election people are going to want a candidate they can be excited about not just a better than the alternative choice.
