I don't want that to happen!
I hope the spy dudes stay around, as well as the virus dudes too. In fact I wish the virus guys got back to the fun viruses that would flash your memory or blank your hard drive. Those were the glory days. Hey, if you leave your front door open in a bad neighborhood and some dude walks in and stabs you in the neck with a machete, I say you deserve it. It will continue to reinforce how much Windows sucks and will drive people more and more to Firefox and linux. As for having to spend so much of your day cleaning your workers' machines, try installing spywareblaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html) and ie-spyad(http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file_description/0,fid,23332,00.asp). Spywareblaster is basically a firewall, but for rogue ActiveX controls. It will block their installation, and doesn't even need to be running in memory for it to do its trick. Ie-spyad is basically a registry file that adds a huge blacklist to IE's restricted sites zone, thus precluding IE form going or being redirected to those sites. If you're running IE 6, go to IE properties, privacy tab, click advanced, check override automatic cookie handling and check off the block third party cookies radio button. This will cut down on the crapware too. I run this stuff on my home machine and it has gotten to the point where ad aware and spybot never find spyware anymore. I haven't gotten even ONE entry for spyware in months!

happy
