And here I've been under the delusion all this time that IE was a key part of the 'whole desktop experience'.

"I don't know what Longhorn will be but you've already made up your mind."

None of us know what Longhorn will be, but if the past is any indication, it will be a cut above IE. However, one of their key trumpeted features is this search thing, which will be severely depreciated as a feature if Google (along with their extensive experience in the field) manages to get there first. This is precisely the kind of thing that Microsoft feared from Netscape. Microsoft is desperately attempting to swallow the net, but instead the net is about to swallow Microsoft.
