If AOL's going to promote Netscape, they need to do it for real and not worry about whether they're going to offend MS (they will). If they're not going to promote Netscape, then they should assign the trademarks and amy remaining proprietory code to the Mozilla Foundation and get on with business.
There are precious few MS policies I agree with, but "eat your own dog food" is one. AOL owns Netscape; they paid good money for it. If they're serious about promoting it, they (and their corporate parent, Time/Warner) should be using it internally; they should make it the default browser on their system (with IE available to those who want it) and they should stop using other people's code in preference to their own. Above all, they need to start treating MS as a competitor, instead of as a strategic ally.
By promoting Netscape, AOL will offend MS and will open themselves up to retaliation. That's the price you pay to compete. If the price is too high, then stop pretending. - Posted by: John L. Ries Posted on: 10/13/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
