The problem is..
The unauthorized servers probably allowed people to use pirated copies of the game.

Personally, I'd prefer it if Blizzard would work with the creators of BnetD to incorporate the anti-piracy features of the battle.net (is it blizzard.net now?) gaming site into BnetD.. but between the options of shutting BnetD down and allowing pirates to play the game online, I'll side with Blizzard on this one.
