It really was an intentional comment; my point is that situations can change. People or entities that once were seen favorably can become "enemies", and those once seen as enemies can change their ways and go on to do good things. It's interesting how Hatch is being so demonized now, even though he has done good things in the past (and probably will in the future). It's like all the past good has been wiped out.

I guess my point is, we shouldn't be so eager to completely categorize someone over a single issue. IBM, once the poster child for anti-competitive behavior, has become the darling of the OSS set. Hatch, once the hero of the anti-Microsoft crowd, has become a pariah.

And as for what is happening to thinking in the US, I think it's a matter of people being too quick to categorize those with differing viewpoints. It really would help if everyone would recognize that there can indeed be a middle ground.
