EarthLink Task Panel Cookies spy on customers
As an EarthLink customer, imagine my surprise after upgrading SpywareBlocker (WebRoot SpySweeper variant) from EarthLink to spyware definitions 439 from 435 and conducting the following experiment:
1) Spyware defs level 435 usually found Ask Cookie spyware - easily deleted - but kept reoccurring!
2) Spyware defs level 439 finds: 360i, Ask and Did-it spyware Cookies which also reoccurred!
3) When logging in to Task Panel in Offline mode it is possible to run SpywareBlocker without connecting to EarthLink servers. When SpywareBlocker is run, it finds above 3 spyware Cookies - again easily deleted.
4) After signing out of Task Panel, then signing in again Offline, and then running SpywareBlocker, the same 3 spyware Cookies are present.
Conclusion: EarthLink Task Panel contains 3 spyware Cookies that should not be present or at least the customer notified of what their use is going to be. Without customer consent, is it little wonder that ISPs spy on their customers?
