one tough question
I have earthlink and when it runs a spy-ware check it must be connected to the internet, so my guess is when the spyware scan finds some on the computer it sends the count found (that is displayed at the end of the scan) to a database; and that might be how they are getting those numbers.
And just a footnote Earthlink's software is Winblows and Crackintosh compatible only so there is no Linux in those numbers they do have.
