- Will the Texas Rangers prevent Stalin Journalism?

BIG WIGS rail ? bloggers rant ?on!
As JJJJJ has responded -"Cronkite, Brokaw, and the other "talking heads" are jealous of the Internet and the freedom it provides to go around the traditional news media".
Well, yes, predominantly because it breaks their monopolistic and monolithic hold on instant/prepared news broadcast, and now subjects their reports to immediate review and scrutiny.
How you gonna control the shared daily news slant with an operational blogoshere? You can't, and that's their real problem. That?s why they?re such in a dizzy, tizzy! The faster they move, the quicker the quick sand swallows them.
Dan Rather, in true (ironic) Nixon fashion, wants to kill the messenger(s) who exposed his errors, and is marshalling the forces to attempt it, re: The New Yorker Mag's Big Wig Panel in ?Circle the Wagons, phase I?. The higher they climb, the more we see! Keep climbing, please.
Notice how Dan's now hiding behind the official company "gag order".
This I predicted last week. I suggested that CBS?s internally commissioned investigation was akin to the current Koffi Annon/UN internal investigation of the French inspired Oil- for- Food with Billions in Kickbacks scandal that now only Fox News is covering, regardless of no less than an ongoing Congressional investigation into the mater, as well.
(That?s the scandal where our best allies, the one?s who stabbed us in the back on our UN approved Iraq attack, are accused now by the new Iraqi media with supposed documents that purport that they received billion dollar kickbacks from Sadham Hussein to prevent us from attacking him, among other things. The nations in question, as well as the UN itself, that are accused of nefarious deeds, are France (mon dieux), Germany, Russia, the Vatican, and China?.stay tuned to FOX for updates )
The internal UN review allows Messieurs. Annon, Savant, who ran the program, and the other players to reply to reporters, should any form the MSM show up, with the quip that? ?I just can?t comment at this time in any way on this issue, so I refer you to the highly respected American investigator (Volpe) with your questions. It wouldn?t be prudent, nor fair to him, or the investigation for me to make any comment on this matter at all, don?t you see??
Very smooth, polite and effective. It buys you time and allows for PR management of the issue. Sound like anybody in the media yesterday?
Poor Dan's now the victim. Victim of what? His on editorial management errors? Or is their more?
For example, just what would happen to an Assistant D.A. who, after filing a murder charge on a perp, then discovers that the original confession that the perp signed upon arrest that the charge was based on, turned out to be ?unverifiable? (erroneous, false, as in, a fraud).
Imagine what the Judge would do to this poor prosecuting attorney, if he continued to pled his case, stating in open court, ?now, your honor, I now fully admit that the confession that the accused signed is not true or accurate, but, I just know in my heart of heart?s that this man is, well, truly guilty, it?s just, ah, I, your Honor, uh, ?I just can?t prove it with this evidence,?.. but I know it?s true!?
Disbarred, and dismissed from the DA?s office for the prosecuting attorney, is the likely result, and perhaps subject to a personal civil suit from the perp, as well.
What the difference, here? The evidences is erroneous, but the story is true?
Let's just see if the Texas Rangers (those that wear badges, not baseball uniforms that formerly were associated with one George W. Bush) are going to bust that internal "gag order" through discovery with a legal, not internally generated review, p.d.q.. (Maybe then we?ll be treated to: Circle the Wagons, phase II, an even bigger panel, run during the evening news hour, a politician of note on board, celebs, a live band??)
The Texas Attorney General has requested their investigation into the ?questionable? (as Andy Rooney describes them) memos to discern if felonies under TX law have been committed?
Just see where threatening these Texas boys with hints of ?slander and libel? might get you. Don?t mess with Texas..
As the MSM said of Nixon, ?the President, and no man is above the law!? And neither are the MSM, nor it?s news anchors.
If they have nothing to hide, then ?release the tapes? as they once demanded of the White House about thirty years ago. You?d think they would be eager to hasten transparency, get it out in the open, air it out and be done with it. What did the lefties say about Monica-gate? Move-On!
Instead, they just keep circling the wagons, making a bigger spectacle of themselves, and then running new and alarming ?news? stories based on discredited email/rumors about a ?false? military draft, relying on a now outted (what were Dan?s words about the bloggers, oh yea) partisan political operative, posing as a Republican. Life is sometimes - stranger than fiction!
As to Brokow/Jennings? admonition that a man deserves a break for one error, per career.
Well, sure, we're a forgiving nation, oh, about as forgiving as the Big Wigs and the MSM were of Dick Nixon. (Nixon didn?t smear a presidential candidate and meddle in an election. He allowed his office to commit a third rate, burglary, bugging the DNC Watergate offices that gained him nothing, but in covering it up, he lied, as was indicated by the demanded release of his Oval Office tapes, and under immense and unrelenting MSM/DEM, (and some REP) pressure which made the Presidency virtually inoperative ? he resigned. Far more than Nixon were hurt in the process, the Nation, as well.)
Moreover, Dan got his hand slapped by the FCC in 2000 for "improperly" (FCC election law violation) announcing Al Gore the winner in Florida, while the polls were still open in the pro Bush-Republican dominated counties of the FL panhandle. Smells like oft-suggested "rathergate" motives, attempting to boost the DEMs, perhaps, in a too close to call state (Flori-Duh). What a headache.
Oh, sure, Uncle Walter probably sees it as just a late night error, no real harm intended. Maybe more than a few votes were not cast? Well, CBS promised the FCC on the "thick carpet" in 2000 to keep their hands clean after that faux pas.
What happened here with ?Rathergate?, Uncle Walty? The very next presidential election and, like clockwork, Dan?s in trouble again, with folks suggesting he was, perhaps, trying to boost the DEMS again, with a ?true story?, even if the evidence it was based on is now admitted by CBS false, er, that?s unsubstantiated.
How many chances, Big Wigs, does Dan get, anyway?
Walter had his, eons ago.
For the under thirty crowd - as the Biggest of the Big Wig news anchors in 1968, Walter Cronkite managed to boost the Communist North Vietnamese (our enemy in the field) by announcing them the winners of their Tet New (lunar) Year?s surprise military all-out offensive throughout South Vietnam which had the immediate effect of dissuading the American publics? continued support of a war brought to us by the DEMS (JFK/Lyndon Johnson). From that point on, our war was all down hill, that is, sinking ? a stalemate, no,? A QUAGMIRE! President Johnson declined to run for reelection, etc., doom and gloom.
But in fact, the soldier loses suffered in the offensive by the Viet Cong left them damaged beyond repair. We killed them big time beaucoup. Historians now argue that it was not a VC victory, but their watershed defeat, and that perhaps we could have moved to win the war with a decisive response. But who was to know. Uncle Walt had already pontificated on the matter to the world!
Still today, it is argued that we (America) lost the Vietnam war here at home, not in the field. Why do you suppose Monsieur Kerry has stirred such a hornet's nest with the swift boat vets. Could it be, that, as a part of the anti-war movement which had support form the MSM, his visit to Paris in 1971 and unofficial and unsanctioned talks with the North Vietnam Gov officials there while still a commissioned US Navy officer ( a war crime?), was seen by many veterans as, well, highly questionable conduct, to be most polite. Dissent is one thing ? treason by an officer is not forgiven, ever!
What was Walter?s punishment for such a broadcast during a time of war, with American troops at risk? Well, CBS News was so shook up that they decided to left him finish out his career as their anchor for about another twelve years or so, until young, Nixon baiting/battling, Dan Rather replaced him.
?And that?s the way it is!?
Get the picture? Nothing happened then, nor in 2000, and little, if anything will probably happen now with CBS or parent, Viacom.
And, of course, ole Uncle Walter is now drug out to pile on with his non-to-subtle hint at slander and libel reprisals. The king?s now grabbing for any clothes he can get!
The best hope for a positive change now rest in the capable hands of the Texas Rangers. The slogan about them is ?They always get their man.? Dan?s a Texan, right? They have real discovery powers!
As to Walter?s rip, well, I?ve been a writer, editor and publisher over the years, and I am not shaking. He does have a point about irresponsible posts that purport to be news. Fair is fair. So is MSM?s responsibility for accurate reporting! And of course, felonious frauds, well of course it goes without saying????..
But, Walter, editorial opinions, based on fact, well that falls under the freedom of speech and freedom of the Press, now doesn?t it? Or is it, if you don?t belong to the club ? you don?t get to sing?
Surely, you would not advocate quelling published free speech and limiting freedom of thee Press. We haven?t sunk to the level of employing ole Joe Stalin?s School of Journalism tactics, have we? (Stalin imposed punitive repression, controlled media, revisionist and slanted news only - or heads literally rolled)
For the under thirty crowd again, this guy Stalin (Sadham Hussein?s idol) out performed even Hitler in the last century in the wanton mass murder of people, the truth, and the press. (I trust you are acquainted with Adolph Hitler, he wiped out about 20 million humans, while Joe got closer to 30, mainly his own folks. What a rig, keep ?em stupid with the ?no-news-papers?, and if that don?t work, kill ?em in slave labor camps designed for the politically incorrigible. Bloggers would have been shot on sight, or worse!)
CBS, clean up your mess, and without such as fuss, it?s terribly bad PR.
They, and the MSM, are entrusted as the Public?s watchdogs, for which they receive the use of FCC licensed and controlled airwaves that are owned by us, the US public. If they violate this trust, they should be held accountable. If the offenses are consistent and numerous enough, they may have their license to ply the public?s airwaves- revoked. It?s the FCC?s call.
And, Walter, this ?gathering mess? more and more reminds me of the old ?Pogo? comic strip (you remember, about that older cartoon bird newspaper editor) wherein he proclaims in consternation that ?We has seen the enemy ? and they is US!
I believe it ran back around the time of the Tet Offensive in South Vietnam.
