Nobody will get the new functions
After 3 years only 2/3 of the windows users have upgraded to win XP. That leaves us with 1/3 of the windows users still using old browsers. Add to that Linux and MacOS users who will not have access to whatever new and fantastic functions Microsoft will add to their new browser version.

This is a far to large part of the population to neglect by web developers, so we can expect that the new functions will not be used for a long time.

I also suspect that it will take even longer time for Longhorn to spread in the population than XP had. The return of investment on upgrading to XP is probably very low in most companies. Not because XP is bad, or even expensive but because XP doesn't do anything new that is of any use in a business situation.

At the same time we can expect free browsers like mozilla to evolve even further using open standards. If everything in the current w3c recomendations was put in a browser, it would blow everything in the browser market away, including the current mozilla, so Microsoft have very little to gain by develop something Microsoft specific.
It would just aleniate users.
