"if I really wanted to know who you screwed last night, I would ask"
But if 2 people near you in the line are discussing it, it's OK.
If you can only hear 1 side of the conversation, it's rude.
Admit it. It bothers you much more when the person's on a phone. If the other person was there you wouldn't be as upset. But you can't see or hear the other person, so it *really* annoys you.
Why?

"get out into the woods"
I do. And if I get lost or need medical aid, I'll use my cell phone to call for help.

"There is no one that important, ... , that need to be in contact 24/7"
So daycare can reach me when my kid is sick or injured.
So in the store I can call my spouse and say "Which one of these do you need me to buy?" (then I save another trip and money)

"enjoy the simple things in life, it really puts your rat race life in perspective"
So if someone DOES enjoy the simple life, maybe out in the woods, then they should go to the rat race to put THEIR lives in perspective.

I DO know what kind of person you mean. They HAVE to use their phone AS they're backing out of the driveway. They CAN'T go without using it. I understand people go to extremes. But some don't.
I do not use the phone while driving.
I always have it on silent/vibrate.
If I am around others, I speak quieter than if I were talking to someone that was next to me (this isn't 1935, and it isn't 2 cans connected by string).
I have used it for 10 seconds in a restaurant, (speaking in a quiet voice) and had someone at the next table complain loudly to others with him about "people on their **** cell phones". This person spoke in a loud obnoxious voice to people at his table all through dinner. (You may know the type of person. Always talking very loud.) Most everyone in the restaurant could hear everything he said. I love humans, they're so funny.
