Simple really...back in the day Netscape was an
independant company that thrived off it's inovation and huge
lead in the browser field. Much like WordPerfect and others. MS
had the OS war's in effect won, and used that muslce to begin
to compete with Netscape. There first several attempts were
well..BAD (Much like what MS offten does...first several attempts
dismal) Still MS had the income coming from it's OS and it had
the muscle coming from it's control of the OS to get companies
to include IE Explorer in their computer sales. Like Word vs
WoldPerfect. So as IE improved....Netscape like WordPerfecct
lost market share and each did NOT have the advantage of a
huge money maker like the virtual domminance of Dos/Windows
to pump money into their projects or to muscle distrubutors/
manufacturers into including their products in each and every
sale. So with time MS won.

Now MS is suffereing from the ill effects off a lack of healthy
competitioni. IE has been shown countless times to be bug and
whole ridden...making it a secutiry concern. Also MS has been
well lazy..and has not put a lot of effort in keeping IE fresh and
innovative.

So now even MS's strenghts have turned into her weeknesses
and yes others will take advantage.
