Napster provided a new business model

The RIAA didn't like the lack of control. So they did everything in thier power to shut it down and were successful in running Napster out of money.

Napster even had the backing of one Major Label.

Consider it like this. I buy may 1 CD a year but if I could have paid say a subscription fee of $20/month for all the music I could download the recording industry would be getting 12 times the money from me and I'd still more buy CDs for collection and quality purposes.

What's wrong with that? Suddenly music makes 12 times more money.

only problem I see is that there is no guarantee that artist would even bother sign contract with the corporate labels. It's be a death blow for the Major Labels and Radio.

I think that 1 Major Label backing Napster was nieve in thier thinking that they could control Napster however.
