Why Microsoft were fined
Microsoft were the first and only company fined for failing to comply with an EU court judgement. They thought they were above the law.

When I come to the US, I expect to obey US laws. If I do business there, then that business has to be in compliance with US laws.

Thus, when Microsoft do business in Europe, they have to comply with European law.

The gambling issue is simple - the US is allowing US companies to operate but not foreign companies. WTO agreements prohibit this.

The EU will not be concerned with Indian car manufacturers - it should be the US who are concerned. Here in Europe most of us like quality, which is why US imports have generally not done well. My wife's Cherokee has had far more work done on it than my Mercedes A-Class which cost the same. (Chrysler have just closed the local dealership so I now have to drive her car an hour to the nearest place where it can be fixed). After all, Mercedes got rid of Chrysler because they could not get the quality standards up.

Provided Indian made cars meet the European safety and emissions standards, they will be able to be imported. (I brought our Pontiac back to the UK when I returned from working in the US).
