RE: French court says site cannot grade teachers
What was not stated in the article is that this kind of rating or website would have no bearing on the teachers' status. Once you pass the exams to become a teacher in the French system, you are a civil servant with a job for life, no matter how crappy a teacher you are - unless you commit a heinous crime, of course.

Also, teachers in France can get pretty touchy when other folks judge them or their jobs. (I know this, because I am one - I'm not in Note2be.com's database because I'm currently on leave, but I've looked up a few colleagues. They had good grades.)

And for those who speak of freedom of speech, well, that's quite a different concept in France. Teachers tend to have a "hush up" attitude toward their students, and often rightly so. It's no surprise that the unions and Ministry put the kibosh on this website.

One more thing: for the record, my American side thinks the website should be left alone, while my French side totally understands why it has to go.
