I have to burst your bubble, but do you really think that a satellite that is out of control can be "directed" to re-enter around the lunar eclipse? Note that no one tracking it (in or out of the US) was predicting where and when it might fall.

Besides, if you remember the last time something big fell out of the sky (in a US sense) it was Skylab and they couldn't help it dropping in part on Australia. An event that caused some mirth and some consternation in New Zealand. They tried very hard to miss, but they couldn't control the crash. Now it's possible to shoot such stuff down. To me, that's a bit of an advance if you aren't actually in control of such chunky space stuff.
