Business is war and in war, life is harsh.

Many of us would like to think that companies are in business for altruistic reasons and indeed many founders might have such thinking... but once a company becomes public, such thinking falls by the way side. A public company's charter is to have its investors see capital gains, not save the world.

On a tangent when you have leadership that gets too emotional and doesn't focus on a business' core competency you have disaster. I can't help to think of Ray Norda whose "religious zealotry" largely destroyed the once mighty Novell. Scott McNealy pretty much has had the same disease for quite some time, until the recent past. Sorry Sun, I'm not really interested in using StarOffice for my financial analysts when 99.9% of them have experience with Excel.

I feel for Yang but my advice would be, take the money and run. In the end it is about money, plain and simple. Don't reminisce too much on the fact that you loved writing PERL scripts on FreeBSD boxes during your college days and one day had a great idea that became Yahoo. Kudos to you for having more money than I will ever have. But in the end this is about business, not about memories of using your favorite shell on FreeBSD and coming up with wicked cool PERL regular expressions. Business people simply do not care.
