Interesting comparison coming...
It will be interesting to see the comparison of social evolvement, crime stats, etc., in China vs. European countries or U.S. I know, I know...a controlled study needs to have other variables accounted for. But nonetheless, if there is radically different stats, it will maybe say something about whether certain materials *ought* to be restricted.

I'm not for China in general, and opposed to them restricting web content related to social dissidence and political speech. But they are very correct that porn and extreme violent content is unhealthy for the human psyche and therefore to the social good. We don't like hearing that in this country (U.S.) because we somehow have evolved our notion of "freedom" into "license", where we don't like anyone restricting us from anything at all. That has never been what freedom is: instead we end up being enslaved to the consequences of the vices that we are allowed to choose "freely" - addiction and abuse.

Time will tell. I will be keeping an eye on what happens in Chinese society and news stories over the next few years. I hope you all do too. Even if you disagree with the logic above, pay attention and see the comparisons between value systems and what the results are.

P.S. - One notable irony - China so immorally forces abortion and sterilization upon its women, yet imposes these higher standards at the same time. Very incongruent. sad
