In the case of YouTube, YES, Google was willing to admit that they were
beat by a much better idea and implementation of online videos, and yes, they wanted the immediate bump in market share or online videos.

But, you have to realize there was no cultural or platform differences between the two. They were an easy and natural fit.

And, it is natural for large companies to buy other smaller companies to get employees, technology, and market share.

But, contrast that with the Yahoo purchase. This is mammoth. We are talking at least FIFTY billion before it is over, probably north of SIXTY billion before it is all said and done. And, there is a huge cultural difference, and Yahoo's whole OS must be changed out as well. The risks are unbelievalbe, and only something you would do if you were very desperate.
