It's not unreasonable
it's just not what they want to do. The company doesn't want to expose it's secrets, be they trade or patent, and will probably invoke some Homeland Security rights in order to 'obscure and secret' their process/code just to protect their monetary value, not necessarily the code and it's correctness. The police, well, they don't give up the secrets either. There are plenty of rules to protect and serve law enforcement, not civilians. Unless you blanket it in a Right to Know type law, it'll be dodged and denied as much as possible for access.

If the coding is important to the process, then it is important, material to the case. If the code is found without fault in the case, then only a bonus for the cops and corporation. If the code is found faulty, why did they all try so hard to protect it from exposure, . . is it a mirror of squashing early DNA testing and wrongful convictions?

Let's make sure the tools used protect both parties to the extent the law provides.

And to note, driving impaired isn't supported by me, for anybody, no badge or badge.
