Depends on volume of purchases and factoring shipping
as newbies are more likely to pay inflated shipping prices as different sellers may charge beyond standard shipping fare to offset low initial bid pricing, not offer multi-listing discounted/bundled shipping and/or just charge retail prices for items that are second hand/as-is and not near original market values. Sometimes shipping is more than what the item would cost instore, at new condition.

Yes, eBay busyers can save if they wisely bid. They can also break even or be at a loss, if they are not making reasoned decisions. Does the item still retail in regular stores, for how much, their shipping, can you drive to a brick and mortar, will you save money and have a longer, better merchandise guarantee?

It's just about making wise bids for a good eBay experience and savings.
