That really depends
For me tests don't show if I've learned a thing. A test will show me where I need to focus but chances are I've failed or not done well on the test. In the end though I come out know more than that marks say I know. I found I would get a C in class but know more than those who got an A+ in the class. While they sat there with there A+ I took my C and figured out what I did wrong often giving me more knowledge than is required to get the A+ in the first place.

In my post secondary education I found depending how the class was graded my marks would vary. I did best in classes where a final composed 90% of the grade while assignments and daily quizzing composed the remaining 10%. In classes with 4 term tests weighing equally at 25% of the grade I did much worse as I'd do poorly of the first 2 test, better on the 3rd and ace the 4th.

I've actually been accused of cheating because of the way I learn. How could I ace a final test while barely passing the initial tests. In Chemistry I did this. I got 45%, 55%, 60%, 98% and they accused me of cheating to get my 98%. When questioned though I could off the top of my head explain much more than those how did well through out the course. Needless to say a verbal questioning like this eliminated any suspicion that I cheated.

Still if you cheat to get all answers correct are you learning anything? Who knows and that's the problem. How can you say a person knows X when you can't tell if the person does know X?
