I do not think there is any revenue from advertising on the internet to support this. They know it can be blocked which will leave the remaining revenue slim pickins to none. People will just download in bursts and not pay attention to the ads. Their bread & butter will still be CDs for the internet is chaos for them.

I have listened to indy bands for a long time so the labels cound not shut them down traditionally. I know they don't like them, but they never had control over those bands in the past.

Yeah that would be nice except they were a central repository for IP so that all folks got paid. The contract labor always did better for better negotiation skills. The band hardly writes music. That is the job of song writers that pretty much don't sing.

Bands will have to negotiate with song writers directly. This will mean many more contracts floating around than using the central repository of the label. Who knows it might make it very tough for the no talents. At least the parties involved will have more control over their own transactions.
