"Blocking" social networking is naive

I am a researcher in management and leadership across cultures. In the majority of the world (on a population basis), social networking is the major process in facilitating business transactions, in what are called "collectivist societies", and are used at some level in all societies. Aspects of social networking exist at work in face-to-face conversations with co-workers, suppliers, customers, etc.; over the telephone; via postal mail; and via the Internet. Attempts to restrict social networking at work harken back to Douglas McGregor's Theory X management.
