The father must do what is right in raising his offspring

but whether that includes making it a public spectacle is another thing altogether. It, depending on country, state, providence or township may have different legal ramifications for not just father but son, so maybe where he's at, this alleged admission of a possibly guilty act may garner no local legal response against the son for his pot-luck or the dad, for the public spectacle of a non-adult??. Only a lawyer could say and or salivate.

If most of the details were left unexpressed, and to phrase it myself: "My son broke a very serious rule of the house and the land, and with his knowledge, I'm selling his Christmas gift on eBay, recouping my losses and teaching him a lesson" probably would have garnered minor responses versus the wide spectrum it would with full details.

You probably have people who want to give the son the same gift as spite to the father, and others who want to put the father on their shoulders and parade around, . . but I'd keep an eye out on the law, and maybe the tax collector.
