Headline-mongering does a disservice to the cause...

There are legions of people devoted to the cause of helping children, fighting abuse of children, and punishing abusers of children. They deal with heartbreaking cases of mental and physical abuse, neglect, and abandonment. But the only headlines they get are when something goes wrong.

Child porn is a problem, but it's not the only one, or even a big one in the greater scheme of things. It irks me to see how stalkers who have made women's and children's lives a living hell will get 18 months in jail, while some photographer who takes pictures of children in their underwear will get 40 years.

And I can't believe that we are paying zillions for grown men (cops) to sit in their offices all day looking at porn and trying to figure out if some girl or boy looks underage. That just boggles my mind.
