PJ O'Rourke said it best....

in his book "A Parliament of ******" - just because we live in a representative democracy doesn't imbue us with any more nobility, idealism or wisdom. We, the people, elect representatives (including Rep. Edward Markey) who promise a dollar's worth of government largesse for a penny our of our pockets in taxes.

It is actually impossible to insult people who willingly participate in such a fraud. Markey and his fellow liberals AND half the so-called conservatives in Congress all are in the business of promising each of us that they'll pick someone else's pocket to give us nice things.

Markey's proposals will open up the Internet to more special pleading, more backroom dealing, and more under-the-table scams and pocket-picking. Not to mention providing a back door for all the Jim Exons and other would-be Internet censors who believe they are competent to tell the rest of us what is suitable Internet content.

And Markey and pals, if they get their way, will eventually impose the late, unlamented "Fairness Doctrine" not just on broadcasters but on EVERYONE with an Internet account.

Goodbye political blogs, because people like the two Democratic Federal Communications Commissioners will DESTROY freedom of speech on the Internet once Markey gets their shoe in the door. They don't want a repeat of the blogger revolt against Dan Rather's attempt to pass forgeries off as news in 2004.

And we deserve any of this that we allow to happen. "Net Neutrality" is just the opening shot in "Net Regulation." We're idiots if we let it happen.
