Well said

Very well said, however it may be too personal which detracts from the well made points. I believe the article to be inspired by trend of anti-regulation coupled with this new bread of self deprecating behavior in the american press. Although, I do have to mention, until recently, the regulatory track record of the FCC has been poor. We are seeing a turn around that has started with the auction of the last frequencies for non-profit and community/public radio stations.

Unfortunately, we can't comment on any bill specifying regulation until the final draft is completed, which usually happens only hours before the vote.

Whether or not the "internet" needs regulation should not be up for debate. In light of recent reprehensible business practices of companies like comcast, banning users from access based on some undisclosed download limit while they advertise unlimited access to all services the internet provides. Companies providing access to the internet do require regulation.

Unfortunately, many of our legislators are wholly incompetent in terms of accessing the truth from disclosure of providers. They attempt to balance the needs of their citizens with the solvency of companies providing the services. Our legislators track record in this arena has been very poor. If adelphia execs spent 1/3 the money they had stolen, each home in the adelphia network would have terabit optical network attachment. Our legislators either won't or don't call "********" when it comes to provider solvency.

I think the real question is whether we can trust our legislators to draft regulations that protect our interests and not give the providers a license to screw us.
