As someone pointed out, the police and prosecutors jobs are not to solve the case or find justice. Their job is to "close" the case. If that means convincing an innocent person that pleading guilty to a lessor offense is a good idea, so what? The case is closed. Now they can get on to the next case.

The legal system in this country has become a game of laws where lawyers "win" by twisting and distorting the intent of the laws by playing word games, distorting, and just plain lying. It doesn't matter what they do, just that they win.

There is a fundamental, and irreconcilable, difference between a system of justice and a system of law.
