Actual prices!
You have the wrong figures! The artists get about 9 cents (of euros) only per purchased CD in Europe (sold at about 10-15 euros)... That's much less than what you think: 0.75%!

And it's the major reason why artists are now getting out of the business offers made by majors and why majors are loosing their artists. Artists get paid MUCH BETTER if they distribute their creation themselves using their own online shop where they sell their product at MUCH LOWER prices, and WITHOUT DRM.

The important thing is NOT to protect the interests of majors, but protecting the job of artists, because that's what we all want: more productions, more artists living from their art.

Still today, most of the money you give to buy some media is collected by business companies just profiting from their financial positions, but not creating anything. This not only includes the major producers, but also the distribution chain that are piving these profits to their stock owners.

In fact it will be extremely good if all majors are collapsing financially. The artists really don't need them, thanks to the digital age.

If the majors want to keep some business, it's not in the distribution of medias, but in the organization of events: concerts, festivals, ... where they can really help artists to organize them, by allowing meeting more artists on the same place, and finding and arranging the places for these events (because this has a huge cost, notably in terms of legal physical security and medical assistance for the public for these events). And they can help promoting these events to the public, due to their audience and the fact that they control the major media broadcasters or papers&magazines editors.

There's no future for majors in continuing their activities in media distribution. Internet if making this much more efficiently, with less intermediary profiteurs, and much less risks for them and lower investments. Online selling of medias could be done at much lower prices, while also giving more to artists.

But let's first frop the abusive exclusive contracts that link artists to a single exclusive media distributor.
