It is only fair.
I get why Prince is doing this, and any other artist. They just want to get paid for the work they do, and to make sure their work is not used in a fashion they would not agree with.

If you worked all week and your boss said, "You know what, I don't think I'm going to pay you" ... how would you feel?

The artists that speak up and try to protect their assets are doing nothing different than you and I.

Also, have you ever noticed that it's only the people that steal the music that get upset by this?
