Universities and University professors who complete R & D work using public facilities and therefore public funds should not be allowed to hold patents on works thereby produced. Why? Because, it's all tax-payer funded! Any works and patents produced under such conditions are essentially works for hire and the public is ultimately the employer at public institutions. The university professor has already been paid to do whatever he/she does at the university---which is usualy pawn off the work of teaching on student-teachers (TAs) etc. while selling grades for sex with coeds. That's the sorry state of our educational system.
