No they shouldn't get something back. First a Professor is paid by the University for his work and in essence any patents should belong to the University solely. That said the university was given funding by the Federal Government from our tax dollars and as such shouldn't be able to patent things we have paid for.

SO NO ! Universities and Professors as said Universities should not have the ability to create patents, unless they are not funded by the federal government in anyway.
