There are other two factors:
a) compatibility, Safari currently is the least compatible and iphone must be even worst.
b) Now support flash?.
c) In my old pda (480x640) many webpages will look awful not because the render of the browser but for the size of the screen, reesclaling or zooming can looks impresible but still is barely usable. And now iphone came with a even little screen. In iphone mobile internet can be quick but any lower that 800x600 is not worthy and even 800x600 for a desktop is still a chunky resolution since many webpages are created thinking in 1024x768.
