Ballmer is a Harvard boy. This article points that out but fails to mention that the founder of Facebook is also a Harvard boy. Bottom line, the investment looks less like an arms length deal that is best for shareholders and more like a deal benefiting the good old boys club at Harvard which has been solicited to protect the bad boy reputation of Bill Gates.

Many authors have speculated that Bill Gates was forced out of Harvard after Department of Defense inquiries regarding his use of non-Harvard computer talent and computer time on a DOD PDP 1170 computer the DOD had placed at Harvard to support the Vietnam war effort. The theft of time and breaking of Harvard rules regarding access to computers by non students is what allowed young Gates to develop a personal computer version of BASIC and start Microsoft.

I seriously doubt Google or anyone outside of the Harvard club was seriously interested in the three year old Facebook. Given that Microsoft management has admitted its criminal ways of the past in both the USA and EU, we must assume that overpayment for the Facebook stake is hush money, designed to protect Bill Gates from those who have a story to tell about his days at Harvard and the start of Microsoft.

Regardless as to why Gates left Harvard early, we should all question the ethical values of those who do fail at getting college degrees once they have started on that track. This kind of a failure should be assumed an indicator that the student was caught cheating or was involved in some kind of improper action for which school administration dealt with by asking the student to leave. Future US heads of corporations will not have an educational track record like Bill Gates'
