I'll second that notion
Yes indeed! I have to go along completely with your assertions.

I have to say i'm not a fan of online music downloads - call me old fashioned: i have a pretty extensive vinyl collection.

Anyways, the RIAA look to be polarising a huge majority of either potential customers or past customers - as well as being somewhat contradictory in their actions over online music usage.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know the salaries/profit ratio for artists versus the RIAA industry members is *huge* to say the least: i mention this as it is fundamental to the argument over what the public pay for music.

If i had to hazard a guess i'd say the RIAA members are struggling to keep artists quiet over the blatant disparity between what the studios earn on music versus what they're actually paying artists (i.e. a pittance). The point being this: when the table's turned and the public are *collectively* only paying a fraction of the *asking price* be that for online music or over-the-counter purchases (note: 'value' would be a misnomer), the RIAA jump up and down and do cart-wheels.

The RIAA have potentially just emptied an entire magazine of M16 rounds into their collective feet, because as our good friend conspicuouschick rightly alludes to, p@#sing off the public at large is NOT listed in the Top 10 of "Things To Do To Make Your Customers Happy" Business manual.

Having said all that, i still say it would be naive to think that the RIAA members (and their associated representatives, et al) would ever start to pay recording artists *anywhere near* what they (the Studios) are collecting in profits.

Rule No.1 in dodgy business Ethics 101: "Double standards are rules we apply to ensure we get rich while the Public get the picture".

Tomorrow we will awake to another day of browsing the corner store CD rack to find an album we actually like selling for $US25 (manufactured for a fraction of that) ... A change of heart from the RIAA? We await that below zero day in Hades.
