As much as I agree, historically, it WAS a republic...
... but after many hits and defeats - all kept hidden from public view - and after Roosevelt changed everything with the substitution of "The Four Freedoms", followed by stacking the Supreme Court with 9 seats to override a Court opposed to his actions, followed by Oliver Wendel Holmes, C.J. saying, "The Constitution means what WE (the new Court) Say it means."

According to McGruder's 1977 American Government Textbook, America is a combination of Capitalism, Socialism (Free Public Education), and Communism (Social Security and Medicare). Argue with the publishers, not me.

It was enough for me to fight the public schools system and prove I was right when I told them that Federal Tax Court was not a branch of the Judicial, but of the Executive - hence unconstitutional; but it's still going strong, and the "Uhmurkans" seem to like it that way. C'est la vie.
