Raise the price, ... as a middle finger???
I'm of the opinion that, as rumor has it, EU may push for "empty" PC manufacturing with the buyer forced to "choose" between the "choices" you claim. No more M$ slipping the old one-OS on the public.

Once the world sees how much they are actually paying for crappy performance, and how much they will save in $$$/???/???, there will be a real "?hange". Once the public will be compelled to think before buying, more consideration will result in fewer pugilistic Operating Systems.

Just you wait and see; once real "choices" are offered/forced, the lemmings will take the le$$ expensive route, ... and suprisingly, they will be happier for it.
